Burt Bacharach dies at 94: The composer was behind the blockbuster

His music has quirky arrangements and haunting melodies, and more than 1,200 artists have performed his songs.

Bacharach has won six Grammy Awards, including his Lifetime Achievement Award, and three Academy Awards in his 70-year career.

He died of natural causes Wednesday surrounded by his family at his home in the Los Angeles area.

Likened to American greats George Gershwin and Cole Porter, Bacharach began his lyricist career in the early 1950s, before forming a professional relationship with lyricist Hal David in 1957. Worked with Hollywood star Marlene Dietrich.

But when Bacharach and David met Dionne his Warwick in 1961, their talents really blossomed, and the couple wrote 39 chart hits for him.
